HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jean Louise (nee Carpenter) Mooring of Glen Ellyn, who passed away on February 4, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Jean Mooring was born on April 2, 1926, in Madison, Wisconsin; she received a bachelors degree from Wellesley College in 1947 and for a time afterwards, attended the University of Wisconsin; she married Paul Mooring in 1948 and they moved to the Chicago area in 1951; and

WHEREAS, Jean Mooring was a lifelong environmentalist; she dedicated numerous hours to the building and maintenance of the Illinois Prairie Path, a 61-mile pedestrian and bike trail, and worked on it for 48 of its 50 year history; she was the editor of the Illinois Prairie Path newsletter for 16 years and served on the group's board of directors for 32 years; in 1988, Prairie Path volunteers received a national Take Pride in America Award, accepted by Jean & Paul Mooring at a White House ceremony; she did much to make Glen Ellyn and the DuPage County area a far better place to live and enjoy life; and

WHEREAS, Jean Mooring was a longtime member of the Conservation Foundation, a non-profit group that protects open space in DuPage, Will, Kendall, and Kane Counties; she had been a member of the DuPage County Environmental Commission since 1991; and

WHEREAS, Jean Mooring was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Rettgen; and

WHEREAS, Jean Mooring is survived by her husband of 64 years, Paul; her daughters, Cecily Mooring, Carol (John) Larson, and Margaret (Robert Foster) Mooring; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Lee, Paul Hamm, Morgan Hamm, Kelinda Larson, and Benjamin Larson; and her great-grandchildren, Adelynn Lee and Nathan Lee; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jean Mooring, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jean Mooring as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
