HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Amedeo Andrew Giorgi, who passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, May 15, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi was born on April 5, 1926, in Rockford; his parents were Louisa and Gabriel Giorgi; he attended Saint Anthony Grade School, Barbour School, Washington Junior High, where he excelled in swimming, and West High School, where he met his wife of 67 years, Marilyn Virgene Wardecker; and

WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi served in World War II as a gunner and postal worker in Guam; he earned his business certificate from Rockford Business College in 1947; and

WHEREAS, Amedeo Giorgi worked for the Rockford Street Department for 20 years, where he served as assistant supervisor; while there, he led the city workers on their first strike for higher wages and better working conditions; he later joined the National AFL-CIO as a business representative for the retail clerks union, where he worked for almost 30 years; in the evenings, he moonlighted at the United States Postal Service to support his family; and

WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi loved to travel and visited every state except Alaska; he loved to watch old movies and listen to jazz; he also loved to do things with his family; his favorite saying was "Avanti", which translates to "forward" and "never give up"; and

WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi was a public servant; in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, he represented the 5th Ward of Rockford on the Winnebago County Board; and

WHEREAS, Amadeo Giorgi served as president of Rockford United Labor and 16th District COPE for many terms; he was a member of the Saint Ambrogio Society and the Saint Anthony Holy Name Society; he represented the 5th Ward, 2nd Precinct as a precinct committeeman for many years; he was also a member of the Moose Club and the Young Democrats; he was affectionately known by his childhood friends by the nickname, "Mud"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Amadeo Giorgi and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Amadeo Giorgi as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
