1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize the Metropolis Public
4 Library as it celebrates its 100th anniversary; and

5     WHEREAS, The Metropolis Public Library was founded in 1913
6 with funds donated by businessman and philanthropist Andrew
7 Carnegie; between 1883 and 1929, 1,689 "Carnegie libraries"
8 were built in the United States; and

9     WHEREAS, The Carnegie Centennial Celebration will take
10 place on June 8, 2013, at the Metropolis Public Library;
11 therefore, be it

12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we recognize the 100th anniversary of the founding of the
15 Metropolis Public Library; and be it further

16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the Metropolis Public Library as an expression of
18 our esteem and respect.
