HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Carol Johnson on
4receiving the "2014 Best School Blood Drive Coordinator Award"
5from the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 1997, Carol Johnson began overseeing the
7organization of annual blood drives at Harlem High School in
8Machesney Park; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Because of Carol Johnson's success, the school
10began to hold semi-annual blood drives, with some of the drives
11being 2 days long; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Carol Johnson has been an advocate for "Be the
13Match", the world's largest bone marrow registry, which links
14patients to compatible donors, and encourages her students to
15participate in the registry; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Carol Johnson has embraced new technological
17advancements that make it possible for double red cells to be
18collected at mobile drives; because of her, many students have
19been double red cell donors; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Carol Johnson works to ensure each individual

1donor is recognized by making seasonal decorations with each
2donor's name on it, which are displayed in the school; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Though Carol Johnson retired in 2008, she has
4continued to organize the school's blood drives and has been
5responsible for the collection of well over 2000 units of blood
6at Harlem High School; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The results of Carol Johnson's efforts will
8continue to be seen for years to come because of the critical
9role school blood drives play in cultivating lifetime donors;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we commend Carol Johnson for her selfless service to her
14community and her strong commitment to her students; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Carol Johnson as a symbol of our respect and
18esteem.
