HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Edward McKenney on receiving the "2014 Rural Physician of Excellence Award" from the Illinois Rural Health Association; and

WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings; and

WHEREAS, In 1977, Dr. McKenney graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McKenney is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine; and

WHEREAS, In 1978, Dr. McKenney joined the staff at Memorial Hospital in Carthage; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McKenney has paved the way for expansion of health care access to residents of Hancock County, at one time running 3 different clinics; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McKenney services Memorial Hospital in many ways; he provides ER coverage, assists in surgery, provides his own diagnostic screenings, and is a valued member of the Memorial Hospital Board; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McKenney has earned a reputation among his peers as an excellent diagnostician, an outstanding teacher and mentor, and "the best heart guy around"; and

WHEREAS, Dr. McKenney is known by his patients for his compassionate bedside manner, which even includes making house calls; and

WHEREAS, For the past 35 years, the patient care and expertise that Dr. McKenney provides has become vital to area residents; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Dr. Edward McKenney for his selfless service to his community and the impact he has made on improving rural health and we congratulate him on receiving the "2014 Rural Physician of Excellence Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. McKenney as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
