HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the members of the Illinois General Assembly wish to congratulate the players and coaches of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team on winning the Little League World Series national title; and

WHEREAS, After winning the Great Lakes Regional against Indiana and an early loss to Las Vegas, the Jackie Robinson West Little League team defeated Nevada 7-5 to secure victory in the United States final on August 23, 2014; and

WHEREAS, The Jackie Robinson West Little League team was the first team from Chicago since North Roseland in 1967 to qualify for the world championship and the 4th finalist from the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team are DJ Butler, Lawrence Noble, Jaheim Benton, Ed Howard, Cameron Bufford, Brandon Green, Darion Radcliff, Marquis Jackson, Joshua Houston, Eddie King, Prentiss Luster, Pierce Jones, and Trey Hondras; the team's head coach is Darold Butler and the assistant coaches are Jerry Houston and Jason Little; and

WHEREAS, Through their hard work and great determination, the players and coaches of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team have brought pride to the citizens of the South Side of Chicago, the City of Chicago at large, and the State of Illinois; in a time of great violence and strife in the South Side of Chicago, these kids have shown the world the great things that can come from the South Side and its residents and the value of courage and determination in achieving one's dreams and overcoming adversity to become the National Little League Champions; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the players and coaches of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team on winning the Little League World Series national title and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Jackie Robinson West Little League team as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
