HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the 8 Illinois fire departments that received 2013 Life Safety Awards for their commitment to fire prevention efforts in their communities; and

WHEREAS, The Bedford Township Fire Department, the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, the Countryside Fire Protection District, the Darien-Woodridge Fire District, Gurnee Fire Rescue, the River Forest Fire Department, the Tuscola Fire Department, and the Wheeling Fire Department each received the 2013 Life Safety Award from the National Association of State Fire Marshals Fire Research and Education Foundation and Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company; and

WHEREAS, The primary requirement to qualify for the award is that the department have a record of zero fire deaths in residential structures or a 10% reduction of fire deaths in their district from the prior year; in addition, departments must also document active and effective fire prevention programs; and

WHEREAS, This year's award recipients utilized an array of fire prevention and public education techniques; among other activities, award recipients organized educational programs designed to teach children basic evacuation skills and how to call 9-1-1, promoted fire safety at community events, conducted fire safety inspections, and checked and installed free smoke detectors; and

WHEREAS, The 2013 Life Safety Award recognizes that fire prevention efforts do indeed make a difference in saving peoples lives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the Bedford Township Fire Department, the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, the Countryside Fire Protection District, the Darien-Woodridge Fire District, Gurnee Fire Rescue, the River Forest Fire Department, the Tuscola Fire Department, and the Wheeling Fire Department on receiving the 2013 Life Safety Award and we thank them for their commitment to fire prevention; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Bedford Township Fire Department, the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, the Countryside Fire Protection District, the Darien-Woodridge Fire District, Gurnee Fire Rescue, the River Forest Fire Department, the Tuscola Fire Department, and the Wheeling Fire Department.
