HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Adam Lizakowski, poet and teacher, completed publication on his most recent book, "40 Listow Poetyckich" in May of 2014; and

WHEREAS, Living in the United States since 1982, Adam Lizakowski has been contributing to the written word for over 30 years, penning works of thoughtful poetry, and reaching many different audiences with his work translated into over half a dozen languages; and

WHEREAS, Adam Lizakowski was awarded the Marek Hlasko Prize for Poetry in 1990, the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit by the President of the Republic of Poland in 2012, and many other accolades over the course of his career; and

WHEREAS, Adam Lizakowski's book, "Chicago, City of Belief" was chosen as Book of the Year by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, Polish Division, in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Along with the success he enjoys as a celebrated author, Adam Lizakowski gives back to his community as the director of the Polish Arts and Poetry Association in Chicago, and is a mentor and teacher to many; and

WHEREAS, Adam Lizakowski is an important figure in the Polish community of Chicago, furthering cultural understanding between two places with deep and meaningful ties; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we do hereby recognize and extend our congratulations to Adam Lizakowski on his recent publication and wish him the best in his future literary endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to Adam Lizakowski as an expression of our esteem and respect.
