HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the administration and staff of Pathway Services Unlimited in Jacksonville on the occasion of the organization's 50th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The history of Pathway Services Unlimited began on April 9, 1964, when a small group of parents and several area professionals met to discuss the futures of their children with developmental disabilities; wanting the same educational opportunities for their children as everyone else but not seeing a place in the school system for children with disabilities, the parents formed an alliance and started their own school, which was initially incorporated on May 18, 1964; and

WHEREAS, Pathway Services Unlimited's first class had 24 students and was held in the basement of the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville; in October of 1964, the name Pathway School was adopted for the day program services; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Pathway Services Unlimited has grown tremendously; the agency currently provides services to more than 800 developmentally disabled individuals in Morgan, Sangamon, Greene, Scott, Jersey, Calhoun, Pike, and Cass Counties annually; the organization employs nearly 250 staff and has an annual budget of over $10 million; and

WHEREAS, The administration and staff of Pathway Services Unlimited serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the administration and staff of Pathway Services Unlimited in Jacksonville on the occasion of the organization's 50th anniversary and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Pathway Services Unlimited as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
