SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/1-8

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that, if a political subdivision that is choosing candidates or submitting a public question is located within the jurisdiction of 2 or more election authorities and has its principal office located in the territorial jurisdiction of a city board of election commissioners, then the election authority in which a majority of the territory of the city board of election commissioners is located shall have jurisdiction, and the city board of election commissioners shall not have jurisdiction.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
51-8 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/1-8)
7    Sec. 1-8. Canvassing boards abolished. Notwithstanding any
8other provision of this Code, local canvassing boards are
9abolished. In this Code or any other law a reference to a local
10or county canvassing board means (i) for elections in which the
11political subdivision that is choosing candidates or
12submitting a public question is located entirely within the
13jurisdiction of a single election authority, that election
14authority and (ii) for elections for offices and public
15questions not listed in Section 22-1 of this Code in which the
16political subdivision that is choosing candidates or
17submitting a public question is located within the jurisdiction
18of 2 or more election authorities, the election authority
19having jurisdiction over the location at which the political
20subdivision has its principal office; however if a political
21subdivision that is choosing candidates or submitting a public
22question is located within the jurisdiction of 2 or more
23election authorities and has its principal office located in

1the territorial jurisdiction of a city board of election
2commissioners, then the city board of election commissioners
3shall not have jurisdiction. In that case, the election
4authority in which a majority of the territory of the city
5board of election commissioners is located shall have
6jurisdiction.
