SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

625 ILCS 5/18c-7401.2 new

Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Requires railroad switching yards to be illuminated from sunset to sunrise at a level prescribed by the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. Effective January 1, 2014.

AN ACT concerning transportation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding Section 18c-7401.2 as follows:

(625 ILCS 5/18c-7401.2 new)

Sec. 18c-7401.2. Adequate illumination levels required in railroad switching yards. All railroad switching yards where trains are made up or broken down by any form of switching shall have a sufficient level of illumination for the period between sunset and sunrise. The illumination level must, at a minimum, meet or exceed national standards for rail yards according to the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January 1, 2014.
