SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
305 ILCS 5/12-4.7b-1 new

    Amends the Illinois Public Aid Code. Requires the Department of Human Services (Department) to enter into an agreement with the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) to allow the Department's database of public aid recipients to cross-reference with IDOC's database of incarcerated persons. Provides that public aid recipients who are inmates at a State correctional facility operated by IDOC shall be subject to an immediate suspension of their public aid benefits, including the immediate deactivation of their electronic benefits card or LINK card provided under the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly the Food Stamp Program), until the date of their scheduled release or discharge from the State correctional facility.

1    AN ACT concerning public aid.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by
5adding Section 12-4.7b-1 as follows:
 
6    (305 ILCS 5/12-4.7b-1 new)
7    Sec. 12-4.7b-1. Incarcerated persons; suspension of
8benefits. The Department of Human Services (Department) shall
9enter into an agreement with the Illinois Department of
10Corrections (IDOC) to allow the Department's database of public
11aid recipients to cross-reference with IDOC's database of
12incarcerated persons. Public aid recipients who are inmates at
13a State correctional facility operated by IDOC shall be subject
14to an immediate suspension of their public aid benefits,
15including the immediate deactivation of their electronic
