SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of David Kent Nelson of East Moline, who passed away on October 11, 2022; and

WHEREAS, David Nelson was born in Moline to Einar Nels and Mildred Elizabeth (Olson) Nelson on August 21, 1946; he graduated from Moline High School in 1964 and attended Black Hawk College; he served with the U.S. Navy; and

WHEREAS, David Nelson retired from the Illinois Department of Human Services as a caseworker in 2005; he served in communications for the U.S. Department of Defense operations during the Apollo XI mission, the first moon landing flight, in July of 1969; and

WHEREAS, David Nelson was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the VFW; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, Fighting Illini, and Boston Celtics; he loved to golf and play pool and always was the first to help in any situation; he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother; and

WHEREAS, David Nelson is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joneva Nelson; his children, Nicholaus and Daniel Hansen; his sister, Phyllis Wilson; his brother, Dr. Don Nelson; his grandchildren, Shane, Angelo, Brady, Jacob, and Andrew; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of David Kent Nelson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of David Nelson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
