SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Capitola Peyton; and

WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was born on December 25, 1925, to Dela Hopkins and John Peyton; she graduated from Wendal Phillips High School; she had 5 children, of which 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild were born; and

WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton traveled the world with her sidekick and son, Robert, traveling to places such as Paris; she lived and worked in many different places in the U.S., including Detroit, Los Angeles, and New York; and

WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was called the "Mother of the House Movement"; the House Movement was a big part of her life; she would often help her son Robert in whatever way she could when he opened his first club; she was at every party doing everything from working the door to helping out in the coatroom; and

WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was affectionately known as "Gypsy"; she was a wonderful mother who loved cats, especially her cat "Annie"; she loved watching movies and television; she had a room full of stuffed animals that were like members of her family; and

WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was preceded in death by her parents, Dela Hopkins and John Peyton and her grandson, Specialist Jameel T. Freeman, who passed away while serving his country in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and an extended House Movement family; her special friend, Gloria Williams and a multitude of friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Capitola Peyton, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Capitola Peyton as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
