SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Capitola Peyton; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was born on December 25, 1925, to
5Dela Hopkins and John Peyton; she graduated from Wendal
6Phillips High School; she had 5 children, of which 6
7grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1
8great-great-grandchild were born; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton traveled the world with her
10sidekick and son, Robert, traveling to places such as Paris;
11she lived and worked in many different places in the U.S.,
12including Detroit, Los Angeles, and New York; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was called the "Mother of the
14House Movement"; the House Movement was a big part of her life;
15she would often help her son Robert in whatever way she could
16when he opened his first club; she was at every party doing
17everything from working the door to helping out in the
18coatroom; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was affectionately known as
20"Gypsy"; she was a wonderful mother who loved cats, especially
21her cat "Annie"; she loved watching movies and television; she

1had a room full of stuffed animals that were like members of
2her family; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton was preceded in death by her
4parents, Dela Hopkins and John Peyton and her grandson,
5Specialist Jameel T. Freeman, who passed away while serving his
6country in Afghanistan; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Capitola Peyton is survived by many nieces,
8nephews, cousins, and an extended House Movement family; her
9special friend, Gloria Williams and a multitude of friends;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Capitola Peyton, and we extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Capitola Peyton as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
