SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Annie Jean Cobbins of Madison, formerly of Chicago, who passed away on May 22, 2012; and

WHEREAS, She was born on December 30, 1956, in Isola, Mississippi, the daughter of Ella B. and Annie B. (Wilson) Cobbins; she attended Beethoven Elementary School and graduated from Jean Baptiste DuSable High School in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Old Ship of Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Otis L. Anderson Jr.; and

WHEREAS, She worked for the City of Chicago Park District and Housing Authority for many years; and

WHEREAS, She was very outspoken; she was an avid sports fan and enjoyed music, concerts, festivals, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and friends; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Annie Spann; and her brother, Robert Earl Wilson; and

WHEREAS, Annie Jean Cobbins is survived by her sons, Taurice (Lyn-Nell) Cobbins and Keyawn (Jeanetta) Davis-Cobbins; her stepchildren, Shojonae (Sean) and Deshawn; her grandchildren, Octavia Phillips Burton, Keanna Burton, Keyawn Burton, Drekwon Smith, Keyavian Walker-Cobbins, and Keymarion Cobbins; her parents; her siblings, Sammie Spann, Roger (Cherry) Spann, Georgia Pope, Brenda (Lane) Miller, and Arrie Wilson; her great aunt, Willie Bell; her aunts, Emma, Bernice (Bryant), Elder Lenora, and Evangelist Simmons (Lenard); her uncle, Matthew (Ida); her nieces and nephews, Justin Pope, Julian Pope, Dyvonna Miller, Nathaniel Miller, and Ginger Jones; and numerous other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Annie Jean Cobbins; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Annie Jean Cobbins as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
