SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Douglas Brown, who passed away on February 15, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Brown was born on June 5, 1952, in Chicago; his parents were Eunice Brown and Joseph Kyles; he was raised and nurtured in a loving environment while residing in the Hyde Park and Avalon / Chatham neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side; in 1977, he met Zondra Moseberry, who later gave birth to his only child, Lakeisha; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Brown accepted Christ at a young age while attending the First Gideon Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Robert Yancy; he attended Avalon Park Grammar School and later graduated from Chicago Vocational High School, where he majored in sheet metal; and

WHEREAS, After high school, Douglas Brown went straight to work at Hector's Service Station on 67th and Jeffery; he later worked at N & L Company before working as a receiving clerk at Evans' Furriers; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Brown was an avid reader and was well-versed in local and national politics and world affairs; he was well known as a handyman around the neighborhood in which he lived and was well-loved by all who knew him; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Brown is survived by his devoted mother, Eunice Brown (Wigfall); his daughter, Lakeisha Robinson; his grandchildren, Savannah and Maurice; his brothers, Richard, Dennis, and Alan (Melva); his nieces, Tricia Walton (Willie), Denyse Jones (Leon), and Laquesha Rowland; his espoused siblings, Brenda Harper-Clark, Jerry Waters, Cleveland Denmark, and Charles Dentley; his great aunt, Pearlie Straits (James); his great great-uncle, Conrad Herring; and his many aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Douglas Brown; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Douglas Brown as an expression of our sympathy.
