| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Mary Price, who passed away on March 3, | 4 | | 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mary Price, nee McElroy, was born on February 23, | 6 | | 1911 in Meridian, Mississippi; she was adopted by Archie and | 7 | | Clarinda Barnes; she was only educated formally until the | 8 | | second grade; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, She married Sam Linton and cared for him until his | 10 | | passing; later, she relocated and made Chicago her home; when | 11 | | her mother got sick, she moved her from Mississippi to Chicago | 12 | | and took care of her until her passing; during this time, she | 13 | | worked at the Woodmill Hotel on 46th and Woodlawn; this is | 14 | | where she met the love of her life, Jack Robert Price; they | 15 | | were married on February 23, 1967; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, She joined Progressive Baptist Church in 1943 | 17 | | under the leadership of the late Rev. T. E. Brown; she was an | 18 | | active member of the church and served on several stewardships | 19 | | within the church, including Sunday School Class #19, Unity | 20 | | Club, the Senior Citizens Club, and the Bessie Sanford Mission; | 21 | | "Sister" or "Mother Price" as she was affectionately known, was | 22 | | a faithful member for 69 years; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, She loved to garden, loved her pets, and loved her | 2 | | church; she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack | 3 | | Price and her beloved brother, John T. Barnes; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Mary Price leaves to cherish her loving memory, | 5 | | her daughter, LaToya Price-Childs and son-in-law, Daniel K. | 6 | | Childs; her grandsons, Daniel and Kevin; a host of extended | 7 | | family members and friends, including her cousin, Lillie Mae | 8 | | Shack, her sisters-in-law, Ruby Barnes and Adeline Washington; | 9 | | her Goddaughter, Theresa Johnson; and her best friends, Mylee | 10 | | Funches, Hillman Francisco, Fannie Perry, Nick Childs, Andro | 11 | | Childs, and Blondell Ferrell; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 14 | | her family and friends, the passing of Mary Price; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Mary Price as a symbol of our | 18 | | sincere sympathy.
