SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John "Pate" Moseley of Granite City, who
4passed away on February 3, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born October 20, 1920, in Sweetwater,
6Texas; he graduated from high school in Pyron, Texas and left
7Texas Tech University to join the Navy in 1940; he proudly
8served his country during World War II and the Korean War; he
9was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, a World War II Victory Medal, an
10American Defense Service Medal, an American Campaign Medal, an
11Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, a European-African-Middle
12Eastern Campaign Medal, a Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe
13and Asia), a Philippine Ribbon, and a Presidential Unit
14Citation (Foreign); in 1959, he retired from the Navy with 20
15years service as Chief (E-7); he remained a member of the Fleet
16Reserve; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1943, he married Margaret Moore from Fort
18Madison, Iowa, and she preceded him in death in 1991 after 48
19years of marriage; in 1994, he married Dolores Kieffer; and
 
20    WHEREAS, After his military service he moved to Granite
21City as plant manager at Air Products and then Dow Chemical,
22later went into partnership in several businesses, and taught

1air conditioning and electricity part-time at Ranken Technical
2College and Belleville Area College and apprenticeship
3programs at Granite City Steel; and
 
4    WHEREAS, He was a member of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic
5Church and was actively involved in the church until he
6transferred to St. Elizabeth Church; he was a dedicated member
7of the Knights of Columbus Tri-City Council No. 1098, serving
8as grand knight from 1993 until 1995, faithful navigator from
91996 until 1997, financial secretary for 3 years, faithful
10comptroller for 2 terms, and vice president of Columbus Home
11for 3 years; he was inducted into the Knights of Columbus Hall
12of Fame in 2002; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He was a caller for St. Margaret Mary's and
14Knights of Columbus bingo; he also loved to play keno in Las
15Vegas and Tunica; he loved poker, rummy, trout fishing, and
16Montauk and his days of traveling and playing golf; and
 
17    WHEREAS, In 1995, he received the Magna Bank Mature Adult
18Award in recognition of outstanding volunteer services; he also
19received an award of appreciation for 25 years of service as an
20instructor and mentor to the Industrial Training Center at
21Belleville Area College in 1997; and
 
22    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his first wife,

1Margaret; his parents, Dale Clarence and Jewel, nee Pate,
2Moseley; his son, Roy Moseley; his daughter, Mary Rothfeld; his
3brother, Billy Moseley; and his sister, Eva Dale Macyeka; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Moseley is survived by his beloved wife of 17
5years, Dolores; his sons, John, Dale, Bill, Donald, and their
6families; his daughters, Shirley Weir, Patty Moseley, Muriel
7Duckett, and their families; his son-in-law, Bryant Rothfeld
8and his family; his stepchildren, Jason and Judith Kieffer and
9their families; the families of his late brother and sister;
10and other extended family and many dear friends; therefore, be
11it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14his family and friends, the passing of John Moseley; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of John Moseley as a symbol of our
18sincere sympathy.
