SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Chicago Police Department Commander of the 8th District, John Kupczyk, who passed away on January 21, 2012; and

WHEREAS, He began his law enforcement career by serving on the Oakbrook Police Department until 1983; he joined the Chicago Police Department in 1983 and quickly ascended the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and was appointed Commander of the 8th District; and

WHEREAS, He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7 and the Polish American Police Association (P.A.P.A.), which honored him as Man of the Year in 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was an active supporter of Gold Star Families, the St. Jude Police League, and numerous community, religious, and civic organizations; he was a founding member of The "Kohiba" Sports and Fisherman's Club; and

WHEREAS, Commander John Kupczyk was the loving husband of 28 years to Elizabeth, nee Podkowski; the loving father of Kristin (fiancee, Maxwell Sexton) and Katie; the cherished brother of Nancy McCue and Detective David C.P.D.; the dearest brother-in-law of Richard (Patty) Podkowski and Alicia (John) Solomon; the devoted uncle of Christine (Michael) Vertucci, Brian (Jodi), and Matthew (Kim) McCue, Richard Jr., and Anna Podkowski; the beloved son of the late Frances and Edward Kupczyk; the loving son-in-law of Mary and the late John Podkowski; and he was respected and honored by many cousins, friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family, friends, and colleagues, the passing of Commander John Kupczyk; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Commander John Kupczyk as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
