SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Chicago Police Department Commander of
4the 8th District, John Kupczyk, who passed away on January 21,
52012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He began his law enforcement career by serving on
7the Oakbrook Police Department until 1983; he joined the
8Chicago Police Department in 1983 and quickly ascended the
9ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and was appointed
10Commander of the 8th District; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of
12Police Lodge #7 and the Polish American Police Association
13(P.A.P.A.), which honored him as Man of the Year in 2010; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He was an active supporter of Gold Star Families,
15the St. Jude Police League, and numerous community, religious,
16and civic organizations; he was a founding member of The
17"Kohiba" Sports and Fisherman's Club; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Commander John Kupczyk was the loving husband of
1928 years to Elizabeth, nee Podkowski; the loving father of
20Kristin (fiancee, Maxwell Sexton) and Katie; the cherished
21brother of Nancy McCue and Detective David C.P.D.; the dearest

1brother-in-law of Richard (Patty) Podkowski and Alicia (John)
2Solomon; the devoted uncle of Christine (Michael) Vertucci,
3Brian (Jodi), and Matthew (Kim) McCue, Richard Jr., and Anna
4Podkowski; the beloved son of the late Frances and Edward
5Kupczyk; the loving son-in-law of Mary and the late John
6Podkowski; and he was respected and honored by many cousins,
7friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10his family, friends, and colleagues, the passing of Commander
11John Kupczyk; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Commander John Kupczyk as a symbol
14of our sincere sympathy.
