SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara Wesby of Aurora; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Wesby graduated from Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana; and

WHEREAS, After arriving in Aurora in 1968, Barbara Wesby became well known for her great dedication of volunteer work in the Aurora community; she was involved with numerous volunteer organizations, including the YWCA Board of Directors, the YW's Advocacy-Action Committee, Illinois LIHEAP, the Hesed House Executive Board, the 6th Ward Aurora Community Development Block Grant group, the Fox Knoll Retirement Center Board of Directors and Human Resource Board, the Black Heritage Board, and the Soulfest board; she was also involved in the YWCA's Week Without Violence day of remembrance following the death of her son in a shooting; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Wesby was an ordained minister at Gayles Memorial Baptist, where she served as a clerk for 30 years and hosted a show on Aurora's Cable Access Television; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Wesby was the recipient of numerous awards for her service in her community, including a community service award in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Wesby served as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Barbara Wesby; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara Wesby as an expression of our sympathy.
