SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charles Alton Cook of Chicago, who passed away on January 7, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born on August 10, 1932 to Jesse and Rebecca Cook in Magnolia, Mississippi; he received his education in the Pike County School System in Magnolia; and

WHEREAS, He confessed his love for Christ at an early age and was baptized at Rose Hill Baptist Church; he met and married Ruth Omega Hurst in 1952; and

WHEREAS, He moved to Chicago in 1952 and joined the Great Hope Baptist Church; he worked for The Pyle National Company, retiring in 1994; and

WHEREAS, He later united with the New Philadelphia Baptist Church, where he met and married Sara Howard in 1989; he confessed his calling to the gospel in 1990 and united with Christ First Church; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth and his son, Marc; and

WHEREAS, Charles Alton Cook is survived by his wife, Sara; his sisters, Jaunita Tucker and Christine Allen; his brothers, Reverend Walter L. Cook and Albert Cook; his children, Alton (Veronica), Linda, Lorraine, Barbara, Theartis, Jenell (Ronald), Juan, Samuel (Dorothy), James (Heike), and Rita; his 10 grandchildren; his 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Charles Alton Cook; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Alton Cook as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
