SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ruth Burton Foney, who passed away on December 22, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was born on July 3, 1924, in Mantua, Alabama; her parents were Mater Burton and Willie S. Burton; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was a graduate of Druid City High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; she subsequently continued her education at Stillman College; and

WHEREAS, In the 1940s, Ruth Foney moved to Chicago, where she became the faithful wife of Eugene Foney, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Foney worked at Swift and Company and later retired from Spiegel, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Foney enjoyed cooking meals for her family, walking, and riding the bus to visit her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Foney accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Sinai Methodist Church in Mantua, Alabama; she later joined Greater Walters AME Methodist Church in Chicago, where she served on the usher board; in the early 1950s, she she also attended Faith United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Foney was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Foney is survived by her son, Eugene Foney, Jr.; her daughter, Jennifer Foney; her granddaughter, Ariel Dale-Foney; her sister, Evary Parker; her sisters-in-law, Bessie Foney, Carrie Foney, and Bernice Brown; her brother-in-law, Roosevelt Brown; and her many special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Ruth Burton Foney; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ruth Foney as an expression of our sympathy.
