SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of John B. Gerber of Carlinville, who passed away on August 5, 2012; and

WHEREAS, John Gerber was born on January 30, 1916, in Carlinville to Charles Henry and Agnus Martha Gerber (nee Boente); he graduated from Carlinville High School in 1936, and was in the U.S. Army Air Force Air Transport Command from 1942 to 1945, serving in Europe, Asia, and Africa; he married Dorothy Drury on December 23, 1945, in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, John Gerber started off as a partner in running a grocery store before he began running a Mobil oil and gasoline distributorship, which he operated until his retirement in 1976; and

WHEREAS, John Gerber was a member of St. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville and was an active member of the Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412, Guy Baird American Legion Post #544, the Country Kuzins Square Dancing Club, and the Carlinville Wing RV Camping Club; and

WHEREAS, John Gerber was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Jeremy Gerber; his brother, Charles Gerber; and his sisters, Agnes Tipps and Marjorie Repasky; and

WHEREAS, John Gerber is survived by his children, Donna (Carl) Kasten, Mary Therese Gerber, and Dennis Gerber; his grandchildren, Heather DeNeve, Toni Gotcher, Nathan Gerber, and Martin Kasten; his 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John Gerber, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Gerber as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
