SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

10 ILCS 5/25-8

from Ch. 46, par. 25-8

Amends the Election Code. Provides that temporary executive appointments to fill vacancies in the office of United States Senator are subject to the advice and consent of the Illinois Senate.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning elections.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section 25-8 as follows:

(10 ILCS 5/25-8) (from Ch. 46, par. 25-8)

Sec. 25-8. When a vacancy shall occur in the office of United States Senator from this state, the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Illinois Senate, shall make a temporary appointment to fill such vacancy until the next election of representatives in Congress, at which time such vacancy shall be filled by election, and the senator so elected shall take office as soon thereafter as he shall receive his certificate of election.
