HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Robert Dean on his retirement as Superintendent of the Laboratory Schools at Illinois State University in Normal; and

WHEREAS, He has been Superintendent since 1994; as Superintendent, he oversees the operation of a PreK-12 school system serving 1,000 students; the students are enrolled at 2 school sites, Thomas Metcalf School, PreK-8, and University High School, 9-12; the schools serve as a regional center for serving students with low incidence disabilities; and

WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin; his Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota; and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his career as a Superintendent, he was also Principal at the Thomas Metcalf Laboratory School from 1986 to 1994; Principal of Waterloo Elementary School from 1979 to 1986; and a teacher in the Whitehall Public School from 1973 to 1978; and

WHEREAS, He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the National Staff Development Council, the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Illinois Association of School Administrators, the National Association of Laboratory Schools, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; and

WHEREAS, He has published many articles on education during his career; made several presentations, at the local, State, and national levels; and has served and continues to serve on numerous educational boards, teams, and committees; and

WHEREAS, He was selected as one of the 75 outstanding educators in Illinois in 1990 by the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; he was honored twice (once as principal and once as superintendent) in the "Those Who Excel" program, a Statewide competition designed to recognize excellence; he was an award recipient for his work, "Outstanding Contributions to Early Childhood Education", by the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development in 1994; and was the recipient of the Evelyn Cobb Service Award for meritorious service to the McLean County Compact in 2011; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Robert Dean on his retirement and wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Robert Dean as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
