HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Marilyn King, who passed away on January 16, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn King was born on March 12, 1958, in Bastrop, Louisiana to Ruth Wheeler Mangum; after meeting Dr. Carl E. King, Sr. on September 30, 1977, the couple was married one year later; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn King attended Morehouse Elementary and Bastrop Middle School; she subsequently moved to Chicago and attended Chicago Vocational School, where she graduated in the top 10 of her class; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn King was employed at the Chicago Board of Education in the math department; she also worked as a grant writer at Loyola University in Chicago and at Commonwealth Edison; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn King loved the Lord and founded Christ Community Church in 1987; she served as first lady of the church and started the Women Ministries, Youth Church School, and Adult Co-ed Bible study; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn King was preceded in death by Utah Mangum, Victoria Wheeler, Diana Higginbotham, Ernest Young, and Paul Garrett; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn King is survived by her husband; her children, Marjalene, Anna, and Carl King, II; her grandson, Stephen Kelly; her sister, Mardis Garette; and her many nieces, nephews, and other family members; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Marilyn King; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marilyn King as an expression of our sympathy.
