HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Northwestern University Dance Marathon is one of the largest entirely student-run philanthropic causes in the world; and

WHEREAS, Nearly 40,000 children are born with a congenital heart defect in the United States each year; and

WHEREAS, The Children's Heart Foundation, the only non-profit organization created exclusively to raise funds for vital congenital heart defect research, is the Northwestern University Dance Marathon's 2011 primary beneficiary; and

WHEREAS, Thousands of members of the Northwestern University and Chicago community will come together to participate in a 30-hour non-stop danceathon at the culmination of a year-long quest to raise funds and awareness for The Children's Heart Foundation and the Evanston Community Foundation on March 4-6, 2011; and

WHEREAS, 2011 marks the 37th annual celebration of Northwestern University Dance Marathon, held in Evanston, and the organizers' commitment to unite Northwestern University and nearby communities through education and philanthropic fundraising; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we support the mission and spirit of Northwestern University Dance Marathon, congratulate the dancers, supporters, and beneficiaries, and invite all people to join in celebrating the pride, potential, and power of the Northwestern University Dance Marathon and The Children's Heart Foundation on the weekend of March 4-6, 2011.
