HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lacy J. Banks; and

WHEREAS, Lacy Banks held the distinction of being the first African-American sportswriter at the Chicago Sun-Times; he joined the Sun-Times in 1972 and began covering the Chicago Bulls in the mid-1980s; during his career, he covered Michael Jordan's entire NBA career, including all six of the Bulls' championships, and he covered the Bulls into the postseason in 2011; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his career as a sportswriter, Lacy Banks was also a long-time Baptist preacher; and

WHEREAS, Lacy Banks is survived by his wife, Joyce; his 3 daughters; and his 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Lacy J. Banks; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lacy Banks as an expression of our sympathy.
