HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Boy Scout Troop 1 in Park Ridge on its 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Troop 1 is one of the oldest troop in the country, formed in 1910 and chartered on June 22, 1912; Charles Morison Dickenson was the first scoutmaster from 1912 to 1914; and

WHEREAS, The First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge was the first sponsor; the membership varied from 15 to 25 scouts in the early years of the troop; the troops first summer camp was a trip by train to Navy Pier, where they took the Lake Michigan ferry across the lake to Camp Whitehall; and

WHEREAS, The troop attended the first National Jamboree in 1937; the troop was also represented at several world jamborees in Europe, South America, Thailand, and England; and

WHEREAS, During World War I and II and later conflicts, Troop 1 was involved in many service projects to help the war efforts, including collecting scrap metals, newspapers, and other items; and

WHEREAS, Troop 1 has had 45 Scoutmasters since its beginning; at least 130 scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout; currently, there are approximately 35 scouts in Troop 1; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Troop 1 on this historic occasion and wish the scouts all the best for the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Troop 1 as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
