HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jennie (Evgenia) Muros Mallis on her 100th birthday, May 2, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Jennie (Evgenia) Muros Mallis was born on May 2, 1912 in Slimnitsa, Greece (Northwest Macedonia, Greece); and

WHEREAS, She arrived in America in 1927 and became an United States citizen on February 19, 1928; and

WHEREAS, She married Constantine J. Mallis on April 22, 1934 and they had 3 daughters, Helen Mallis, Sophia Mallis, and Marinna Mallis Kolaitis; her husband passed away in 1945; and

WHEREAS, She is the proud grandmother of Jeanine Constance Kolaitis; and

WHEREAS, She worked at the Collier Book Plant, District 217 Argo Community High School Cafeteria, District 104 Walsh School as a teacher's aide in the bilingual program, and worked with children from the previous Communist bloc countries, such as Albania, Russia, the former Yugoslavia, as well as Greece and Turkey; and

WHEREAS, She is an American Legion life member in Big Rapids, Michigan and Summit-Argo, Illinois; she is a member of the Summit-Argo and Bedford Park Woman's Club and the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Philopticos in Justice; she is a life member of the Brotherhood of Grammos, and is one of the founders and the oldest member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Justice; and

WHEREAS, She loves books and education, especially centered around children; she also loves music and dancing; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Jennie Mallis on the centennial of her birth and wish her continued good health and happiness for years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jennie Mallis as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
