HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor people who have contributed to the State of Illinois in ways that improve the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Phil Jones joined the Logan Square Advisory Council in 1996, after serving as a T-ball coach for his daughter, Amy, and her team; as a result, he became involved in the creation of new park facilities, including the bathrooms and baseball diamonds; and

WHEREAS, Phil Jones started fundraising for the park district and established a bank account as well; the district started movies in the park, candlelight bowling, T-shirt sales, and anything that would help raise money; and

WHEREAS, In 1999, working with then Illinois Senator Lisa Madigan and then Alderman Billy Ocasio, Phil Jones began the renovation of Haas Park; in 2007, with the help of the Logan Square Neighborhood Association, the Trust for Public Lands, and Alderman Manny Flores, he secured land west of Haas Park, which enabled the park to expand; and

WHEREAS, In 2008, he represented Haas Park at the World Park's Summit held in downtown Chicago on a panel discussion concerning fundraising; and

WHEREAS, To this day, Phil Jones continues to work, helping start a Garden Club, keeping the Park programs going, and working wherever he is needed; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Phil Jones for all his hard work and commitment to Haas Park and the Logan Square area; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Phil Jones as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
