HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles E. Mingo of Chicago, who passed away on February 2, 2012; and

WHEREAS, He was born on June 27, 1941 in McComb, Mississippi to Frank L. Mingo, Sr. and Cornelia E. Mingo (nee Dillon); he moved to Chicago as a child; he attended Northern Illinois University, where he received a B.S. in Zoology; and

WHEREAS, He was a founding member of the Northern Illinois University Epsilon Omicron chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; in 1966, he married Janet Mingo (nee Bailey-Murray); he earned a Master's in Biology from Chicago State University; and

WHEREAS, He began his educational career as a biology teacher at Harlan High School; later, he progressed into educational administrative roles as an Assistant Principal at Austin High School and Whitney Young High School, which he co-founded; additionally, he worked as a District Administrator for the Chicago Public Schools Central District before becoming Principal of Du Sable High School in Chicago and Beckham Middle School in Gary, Indiana; and

WHEREAS, During his career, he won numerous awards including the prestigious Miliken Award for Excellence in Education in 1993; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank L. Mingo, Jr.; and his sister-in-law, Sheila Mingo; and

WHEREAS, Charles Mingo is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Jennifer, Nathalie, Jeffery, and Dana; his brother, Clifton "Tip" Mingo; his sister-in-law, Suziet Mingo; his 2 aunts; his mother-in-law; and his many cousins, nephews, and nieces; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Charles Mingo; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charles Mingo as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
