HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize Carl Knous for his
4service to our country as a member of the United States Marine
5Corps; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Carl Knous entered the United States Marine Corps
7at the age of 17, right after he graduated from trade school;
8he served with the Marine Corps for over 2 years and was
9deployed overseas for 19 months at the time of his discharge on
10November 11, 1946; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After going through basic training in San Diego,
12Carl Knous was deployed to the South Pacific theatre during
13World War II; along the way, he and his unit avoided enemy
14patrols and made several stops before landing on Okinawa; he
15took part in the fighting on Okinawa for a month under horrible
16conditions; by the end of the fighting, he was one of the only
175 survivors in his unit of 250 soldiers to emerge unharmed; his
18unit was slated to go to Tokyo following the battle, but was
19sent back to the US after the dropping of the atomic bomb; and
 
20    WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, Carl Knous
21was sent to Chicago before returning to Petersburg; he then
22began working with his father 3 days after returning home; and

1    WHEREAS, Carl Knous serves as a model of hard work,
2integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
3Illinois; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we recognize Carl Knous for his service to our country and wish
7him success and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Carl Knous as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
