| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, For 20 years DuPage County has served as a leader | 3 | | in conservation and environmental protection to ensure it | 4 | | remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, On October 27, 2011, DuPage County became the | 6 | | first county in the State of Illinois to receive the Governor's | 7 | | Sustainability Award for its efforts to preserve the | 8 | | environment for future generations; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, For 25 years, the Governor has recognized public | 10 | | and private organizations in the State of Illinois for | 11 | | significant achievements in protecting the environment through | 12 | | sustainable practices; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, The Sustainability Award serves as a validation of | 14 | | DuPage County's efforts to reduce emissions, save energy, | 15 | | increase air quality, conserve resources, and recycle waste | 16 | | materials; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, DuPage County's initiatives have not only served | 18 | | the environment well, but have also resulted in good public | 19 | | policy; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Such sustainability initiatives include |

| 1 | | optimizing the county's traffic signal timing programs to | 2 | | increase traffic flow, reducing 2.32 million hours of driving | 3 | | time and saving 232,000 gallons of fuel; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Through the County's free Electronics Recycling | 5 | | Program, more than 2 million pounds of electronic waste have | 6 | | been diverted from landfills since 2008; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The County will save 2.4 million kilowatts | 8 | | annually through energy-efficiency improvements on its campus; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, More than 5 tons of unused and unwanted | 11 | | medications have been properly disposed of through the Rx Drop | 12 | | Box Program which in turn keeps these hazardous waste items out | 13 | | of our waterways and soil; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, DuPage County continues to work with businesses | 15 | | and residents to implement more sustainable programs and to set | 16 | | an example of how it can reduce its environmental footprint in | 17 | | a fiscally responsible manner; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 19 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 20 | | we recognize DuPage County for its diligent work to preserve | 21 | | the environment for future generations.
