HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are proud to remember the men and women who serve, and have served, in our nation's armed forces; and

WHEREAS, On November 11, 2011, we will once again take time to honor our veterans; and

WHEREAS, Schools across the State of Illinois need to take the time to instruct students about the battles and conflicts that our servicemen and servicewomen have been a part of over the years; children need to be made aware of the great sacrifices that have been made to keep our country free; and

WHEREAS, The Battles at Lexington, Yorktown, Shiloh, Gettysburg, and others are important parts of our history; and

WHEREAS, The American Revolutionary War, the French-Indian Wars, the War of 1812, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have produced brave men and women who fought valiantly for this nation and gave their lives to preserve its values and freedoms; and

WHEREAS, The Teacher Resource Guide for Veterans Day contains information about: the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Honor Flight Network, veterans service organizations, respecting the flag, and folding the flag; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge teachers in the State of Illinois to use the Teacher Resource Guide to teach their students about Veterans Day and the many important aspects of this special day in the United States.
