HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sergeant Barry
4Groesch of the Yorkville Police Department on his retirement;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born in Aurora and moved to Yorkville while
7he was in the 2nd grade; he graduated from Yorkville High
8School in 1978; and he attended Waubonsee Community College;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Deciding to not pursue college, he went to work
11for Barber-Greene, a factory that manufactured construction
12equipment; when he turned 21 years old he was offered a job
13with the Kendall County Sheriff's Department, where he worked
14for two and a half years before being recruited by the
15Yorkville Police Department; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
17program started in the 1980s, and Kendall County began a
18countywide program, with Yorkville started their own program a
19year later; Sergeant Groesch became a DARE prevention teacher
20soon after, working with elementary and middle school kids; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Sergeant Groesch taught DARE classes over a

114-year period and became a statewide advocate of the program;
2he was appointed as president of the Illinois DARE Officers
3Association in 1997; he also served as the first school
4resource officer at Yorkville High School and later worked as
5the school resource officer at Yorkville Middle School; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the Yorkville Police
7Department, he has also worked with the Boy Scouts, Kendall
8County TRIAD, the Citizens Police Academy, the Yorkville Clergy
9Association, and others; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we congratulate Sergeant Barry Groesch on his retirement and
13wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Sergeant Barry Groesch as a symbol of our respect
17and esteem.
