HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Society of American Archivists on the occasion of their 75th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1936, the Society of American Archivists is North America's oldest and largest national archival professional association; their mission is to serve the educational and informational needs of more than 5,500 individual and institutional members and to provide leadership to ensure the identification, preservation, and use of records of historical value; and

WHEREAS, The Society is the leading professional association of archivists in the United States, and its membership includes archivists from many countries around the world; and

WHEREAS, The Society is dedicated to the preservation of the nation's historical documentary heritage from governments, religious bodies, business firms, colleges and universities, professional organizations, and individuals, bringing the past into the service of the present and the future; and

WHEREAS, The Society of American Archivists will hold its 75th annual meeting in Chicago on August 22-27, 2011, at the site of its national headquarters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we welcome and congratulate the members of the Society of American Archivists on this historic occasion; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Society of American Archivists as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
