HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate our friend, Edward
4T. Duffy III, on his long career as a staple in the Illinois
5State Capitol; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy was born on October 23, 1945; his
7parents are Edward and Dorothy Duffy; he has two siblings, Bill
8and Patty; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy began his career as a Chicago police
10officer; he served as an investigator for the intelligence
11division, specializing in organized crime; he subsequently
12served as the Chief of the Compliance Office and as the Chief
13Investigator of the Illinois Dangerous Drugs Commission; he
14also served as the division's budget administrator; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy was appointed as the Director of the
16Illinois Department of Drug and Alcohol Abuse (DASA); he was
17also appointed to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor
18Jim Thompson and served as Director of the Illinois Department
19of Public Aid; and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 1988, Mr. Duffy left state government and
21became Vice-President of the Village of Arlington Park; he

1became President of Arlington Park soon after; in 1993, he
2joined the National Jockey Club and became the organization's
3CEO; he subsequently worked at the Sportsman's Park Racetrack
4and the Chicago Motor Speedway, remaining in that position
5until 2001; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy formed his own consulting firm, Edward
7T. Duffy Associates, and was appointed Chairman of the Illinois
8Community College Board; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy served as a Trustee for the Village of
10Arlington Heights; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy is one of the most beloved and trusted
12lobbyists in the Illinois State Capitol and has became known
13for his chief negotiating skills on tough legislative matters;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy is known in the Capitol for his
16knowledge on gaming issues and higher education, among others;
17he has lobbied for the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the
18Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois Student
19Assistance Commission, Hawthorne Racetrack, Casino Queen, and
20the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents, among
21many other clients; and

1    WHEREAS, In 2009, Mr. Duffy joined forces in lobbying with
2Liz Brown-Reeves, with whom he formed a life-long friendship
3and partnership; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy has continued to make his family the
5cornerstone of his life; he married his loving wife, Nancy, in
61968; he has five daughters, Colleen Ann (husband, Tim), Meghan
7Ann (husband, Eric), Kelli Ann, Erin Ann (husband, Brent), and
8Cara Ann, and six grandchildren, Katelyn Isabella Moulton,
9Madison Paige Moulton, Braden Duffy Carlson, Bryce Duffy
10Carlson, Ansley Carlson, and Everleigh Ann Lahman; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy will undoubtedly still be part of the
12legislative process in Springfield and continue to serve as a
13source of wisdom and guidance on key legislative issues;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate Edward T. Duffy III on a successful career in
18the Illinois State Capitol and his many contributions to the
19State of Illinois; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to Edward T. Duffy III as a symbol of his
22contributions to the State of Illinois.
