HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Derrick Rose, guard with the National Basketball Association's (NBA) Chicago Bulls, on becoming the youngest Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the history of the NBA; and

WHEREAS, He accepted the award during a ceremony held on May 3, 2011 in Lincolnshire; and

WHEREAS, At 22, he unseated Wes Unseld, who won the award in 1969 at the age of 23; and

WHEREAS, During the ceremony, he paid tribute to his mother, who had a front-row seat to watch her son receive his honors, as well as his older brothers; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was born and raised in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago and is the son of Brenda Rose; he was a student and graduated from Simeon Career Academy in Chicago in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Derrick Rose was drafted first by the Chicago Bulls in the 2008 NBA draft; he joins former Chicago Bulls all-star Michael Jordan as the only Bulls player to earn an MVP honor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Derrick Rose on being the youngest MVP in the history of the NBA and wish him continued success both on and off the basketball court; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Derrick Rose as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
