HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Maureen Mulhall has been a massage therapist since 1984; and

WHEREAS, She has been a member of the American Massage Therapy Association since 1995; she began advocating for massage therapy licensure in 1996 at the behest of former Representative Beth Coulsen to protect the public while ensuring the integrity of the profession; and

WHEREAS, From 1996 to 2001, Maureen worked with members of the General Assembly and industry stakeholders to ensure legislation that would establish regulations that would not overly burden practitioners but ensure the health, safety, and welfare of massage therapy consumers; and

WHEREAS, The Massage Licensing Act was enacted in 2003 in large part due to the tireless volunteer effort of Maureen; and

WHEREAS, In acknowledgment of her dedication to the welfare of the citizens of Illinois and her fellow massage therapists, Maureen received the first license issued by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in 2004; and

WHEREAS, The leadership, dedication, and fundamental understanding of good legislation demonstrated through the years of advocating for the profession led the Illinois Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association to contract for Maureen's services in 2002; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we publicly recognize and commend the work of Maureen Mulhall and her 15 years of dedicated, selfless service to the massage therapy industry; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Maureen Mulhall as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
