HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the Westmont Lions Club on their 75th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Westmont Lions Club was chartered on January 8, 1936; the main mission of the Westmont Lions Club is service to the community with an emphasis on blind and deaf activities; and

WHEREAS, The Club hosts events such as Candy Day, the Westmont Red, White, and BBQ Festival, and A Magical Vision Fundraiser, as well as sponsoring several scholarship programs for Westmont High School Seniors; and

WHEREAS, The Club has been a staple at the Annual Taste of Westmont, serving up over 1,000 ears of corn annually; previous events have included the Pow Wow Days Festival, the Spring Carnival, Donkey Basketball, and the Downtown Westmont Christmas decorations; and

WHEREAS, The newest endeavor of the Lions Club is the "Send a Kid to Camp Lions" promotion; currently running in 4 states, the promotion will go to the national level in a few years and is expected to raise more than $1,000,000 a year in donations to send blind and deaf children to camp; and

WHEREAS, The Westmont Lions Club started 3 other Lions Clubs, in Bolingbrook, Oakbrook, and Darien; and

WHEREAS, The Westmont Lions Club pays for more than 80 vision tests, 80 pairs of glasses, and 30 hearing aids for low-income families every year; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Westmont Lions and wish them all the best in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Westmont Lions as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
