HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the Galena Territory Association on the occasion of the Galena Territory being designated as a Certified Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation; and

WHEREAS, The Galena Territory is a 6,800-acre residential, recreation, and resort community in Jo Daviess County; the Territory includes 1,750 acres of common property, referred to as Greenspace, the 225-acre Lake Galena, and 23 miles of wilderness trails; and

WHEREAS, The Galena Territory Association has teamed up with the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation to host educational events for county residents and has provided educational programs on Birds of The Territory, Tree Identification, Invasive Plants, and more; the Association hosts several community projects, including "Vulture Day", a twice-annual roadside and lakeshore cleanup event; the Association has also worked to control erosion along creek banks and ravines and has initiated numerous ecological restoration projects throughout The Territory, improving the habitat of countless insects, birds, reptiles, and mammals; and

WHEREAS, The Galena Territory Association registered its intent to become a Certified Community Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation in 2009; after completing the requirements and documentation in August of 2010, the Galena Territory became the 46th Community Wildlife Habitat; the Galena Territory is the first such Community in Illinois, Wisconsin, or Iowa; and

WHEREAS, The members of The Galena Territory Association serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Galena Territory Association on the occasion of the Galena Territory being designated as a Certified Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Galena Territory Association as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
