HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Thomas Schmitz on the occasion of his retirement after many years of public service; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Schmitz was elected to serve as Alderman for the 4th Ward in Batavia in 1999; he served on the Community Development Committee from June 1999 to the present; he served on the Administrative Services Committee until it became the Government Services Committee in June of 2003; he served as a member of the Government Services Committee until August 3, 2003; he then served as vice-chair from September of 2003 until January 12, 2010; he subsequently became chairperson of the committee in April of 2010, where he remained until his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his service with the Batavia City Council, Thomas Schmitz served on the Batavia Board of Zoning Appeals from October of 1980 until April of 1999; he also served on the Batavia School Board from 1987 to 1993 and served as the Board's president from 1991 to 1993; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Schmitz married his loving wife, Nancy, on May 5, 1962; together, the couple had two children, Illinois State Representative Timothy Schmitz and his wife, Julianne, and Scott Schmitz and his wife, Kelly; and they are the proud grandparents of five grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Schmitz serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Thomas Schmitz on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Thomas Schmitz as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
