HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Thomas Schmitz on
4the occasion of his retirement after many years of public
5service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Thomas Schmitz was elected to serve as Alderman
7for the 4th Ward in Batavia in 1999; he served on the Community
8Development Committee from June 1999 to the present; he served
9on the Administrative Services Committee until it became the
10Government Services Committee in June of 2003; he served as a
11member of the Government Services Committee until August 3,
122003; he then served as vice-chair from September of 2003 until
13January 12, 2010; he subsequently became chairperson of the
14committee in April of 2010, where he remained until his
15retirement; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Prior to his service with the Batavia City
17Council, Thomas Schmitz served on the Batavia Board of Zoning
18Appeals from October of 1980 until April of 1999; he also
19served on the Batavia School Board from 1987 to 1993 and served
20as the Board's president from 1991 to 1993; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Thomas Schmitz married his loving wife, Nancy, on
22May 5, 1962; together, the couple had two children, Illinois

1State Representative Timothy Schmitz and his wife, Julianne,
2and Scott Schmitz and his wife, Kelly; and they are the proud
3grandparents of five grandchildren; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Thomas Schmitz serves as a model of hard work,
5integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
6Illinois; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we congratulate Thomas Schmitz on the occasion of his
10retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement
11years; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to Thomas Schmitz as a symbol of our esteem and
14respect.
