HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lance
4Corporal Kevin E. Oratowski of Wheaton, who was killed while
5conducting combat operations in the Helmand Province in
6Afghanistan on August 18, 2010; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Kevin E. Oratowski was a Wheaton
8resident for over 22 years and a 2005 graduate of Glenbard
9South High School in Glen Ellyn; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on
11June 23, 2008; he served as a light-armored vehicle crewman and
12was conducting mounted combat operations against enemy forces
13at the time of his passing; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He was assigned to the 1st Light Armored
15Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine
16Expeditionary Force out of Camp Pendleton, California; he was
17awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the
18National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign
19Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Sea
20Service Deployment Ribbon; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Kevin E. Oratowski was the

1cherished son of Stephen and Mary (nee Groom); the loving
2brother of Carrie (fiancee, Jason Plaszek), Michael, and his
3late twin sister, Avy; the dear grandson of Avy and the late
4William Clint Groom, and the late Norman and Sylvia Oratowski;
5the fond uncle of Charlie and Joey; the dear godson of John and
6Kathy Gallo; the fond nephew of Loretta and Walter Kloog and
7Shari and Bruce Barnich; a dear friend; and the devoted cousin
8of many; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful
12nation, the passing of Lance Corporal Kevin E. Oratowski; and
13be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Kevin
15E. Oratowski and his willingness to serve his country, which
16led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Lance Corporal Kevin E. Oratowski as
19a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
