HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Vickie L. (Schnake) Niederhofer of Hoyleton, who passed away on September 4, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Vickie Niederhofer was born on July 6, 1954, to Richard and Imogene (Bierman) Schnake; she graduated from Centralia High School in 1972 and attained a registered nursing degree from Kaskaskia College in 1974; she married Joe Niederhofer in 1975; she obtained a bachelor of science degree in nursing from McKendree College in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Vickie Niederhofer worked as a Cottage Nurse at Murray's Children Center from 1974 to 1985; she became Unit Director and eventually Murray Center Director for 5 years; she was Murray Center Administrator from 1985-1993, Residential Services Director from 1993-2000, and Facility Director from 2000-2004; and

WHEREAS, Vickie Niederhofer attended Zion United Church of Christ in Hoyleton; she was secretary of the Washington County Food Pantry and loved spending time with her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Vickie Niederhofer was well-respected for her outspoken advocacy and knowledge of Murray Center and the needs of its residents; she was a tireless fighter to keep Murray Center open and spearheaded efforts to build a coalition of parents, employees, and community leaders for that cause; and

WHEREAS, Vicki Niederhofer will be remembered for her endless compassion and care for those who resided at Murray Center and their family and for the compassionate treatment for those suffering from mental illness across the State; and

WHEREAS, Vickie Niederhofer is survived by her sons, Travis Niederhofer (Stephanie House) and Adam Niederhofer (Ayla Thorp); her brother, Randy Schnake (Angela); her nephews, Lucus Schnake and Derrick Schnake; her niece, Abby Schnake; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Vickie Niederhofer, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Vickie Niederhofer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
