HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Ray Urbans; and

WHEREAS, Ray Urbans was born in 1914, in Biron, Wisconsin; in 1946, he moved with his wife and children to the Chicago area; and

WHEREAS, Ray Urbans was a high school teacher of geometry and college algebra; he also coached basketball and football; and

WHEREAS, Ray Urbans was an active civic leader; he served as Trustee in Westchester for 20 years and as Mayor of the Village of Westchester for 4 years; he served on the Broadview-Westchester Water Commission for 30 years and on the Proviso Township Mental Health Commission for 17 years; as a youth advocate, he was one of the founders of Little League Baseball in Bellwood and Westchester; he also served on the York Township Senior Advisory Committee for 12 years; during his tenure, he was a driving force on the committee and was instrumental in scheduling guest speakers and special events for the senior citizens of York Township Senior Center; and

WHEREAS, Ray Urbans was a past Post Commander of the American Legion and a long-time officer of the Kiwanis Club; he also organized numerous cooperative endeavors and public-spirited projects; and

WHEREAS, Ray Urbans was preceded in death by his wife; his 3 sisters; and his brother; and

WHEREAS, Ray Urbans was the beloved husband of the late Anne; the devoted father of Raylene J. (Marcus) Cassidy and M. Bruce (Barbara); the dear grandfather of Chris (Dave) Wheeler, Scott (Jen) McGonigal, and Bonnie Urbans; and the great-grandfather of 3; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Ray Urbans; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ray Urbans as an expression of our sympathy.
