HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, The congregation of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Streamwood will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Parish in June of 2012; and

WHEREAS, In 1962, St. John the Evangelist celebrated its first Mass in a large tent with approximately 300 families in attendance; Reverend John Kyle was the first pastor; in September of that year, construction began on a combined school and place of worship; and

WHEREAS, In 1963, the school was opened and Mass was celebrated in what is now Kyle Hall; the first Associate Pastor, Father James Moriarity, was assigned to the Parish; and the Country Fair, a tradition for St. John's and the community, began for the first time on Labor Day weekend; and

WHEREAS, The Catholic population of Streamwood continued to grow so that by 1967 John Cardinal Cody approved building a permanent church; in June of 1968 the first Mass was celebrated in the new church; and

WHEREAS, The new church was dedicated on October 27, 2002 by Francis Cardinal George; the current pastor of the church is Reverend Theodore (Ted) Schmitt, who was joined by Father Piotr Gnoinski in 2011; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the congregation and staff of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church as they celebrate this momentous occasion; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the congregation of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
