HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the
4State of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The congregation of St. John the Evangelist
6Catholic Church in Streamwood will be celebrating the 50th
7anniversary of the Parish in June of 2012; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In 1962, St. John the Evangelist celebrated its
9first Mass in a large tent with approximately 300 families in
10attendance; Reverend John Kyle was the first pastor; in
11September of that year, construction began on a combined school
12and place of worship; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 1963, the school was opened and Mass was
14celebrated in what is now Kyle Hall; the first Associate
15Pastor, Father James Moriarity, was assigned to the Parish; and
16the Country Fair, a tradition for St. John's and the community,
17began for the first time on Labor Day weekend; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The Catholic population of Streamwood continued
19to grow so that by 1967 John Cardinal Cody approved building a
20permanent church; in June of 1968 the first Mass was celebrated
21in the new church; and

1    WHEREAS, The new church was dedicated on October 27, 2002
2by Francis Cardinal George; the current pastor of the church is
3Reverend Theodore (Ted) Schmitt, who was joined by Father Piotr
4Gnoinski in 2011; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate the congregation and staff of St. John the
8Evangelist Catholic Church as they celebrate this momentous
9occasion; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the congregation of St. John the Evangelist
12Catholic Church as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
