HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team won the 2012 NCAA National Championship after beating Syracuse by a score of 8 to 6, on Sunday, May 27, 2012; and

WHEREAS, This is the eighth consecutive year that the Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team has played in the NCAA National Championship game, which ties the NCAA record for consecutive championship games; and

WHEREAS, This is the seventh time that the Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team has won the NCAA National Championship in the 8 championship games in which it has played; and

WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team has compiled an overall record of 168-9 since its first championship season of 2005, including an astonishing 82-2 record on its home field in Evanston; and

WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team is the only Division I team from the State of Illinois to win a national championship in one of the 20 NCAA-sponsored women's sports in the last 30 years; and

WHEREAS, The Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team outscored its opponents in 2012 by a combined total of 307-172 and recorded 11 wins over teams ranked in the Top Ten nationally; and

WHEREAS, Northwestern University is the only school in Illinois fielding an NCAA Division I team among the 92 women's teams and 61 men's teams in Division I; and

WHEREAS, Senior Shannon Smith, the reigning National Player of the Year, completed her collegiate career by scoring 2 goals against Syracuse, which made her the second leading point scorer in NCAA tournament history and also made her the Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team's all-time leader in goals scored, with 254; and

WHEREAS, Winning NCAA women's lacrosse titles has become routine for the Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team; and

WHEREAS, The success of a great team can always be traced to a great coach; and

WHEREAS, Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller of the Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team now holds the NCAA women's lacrosse records for most coaching victories and the best winning percentage in the NCAA National Tournament; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate and commend the Northwestern University Women's Lacrosse Team on its seventh NCAA National Championship in the last 8 years and its victory over Syracuse; and we wish the team members continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Coach Kelly Amonte Hiller and to Athletic Director Jim Phillips as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
