HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Kane County Farm Improvement Association,
3later to be named the Kane County Farm Bureau, was chartered on
4December 31, 1912, and is celebrating its 100th anniversary;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Kane County Farm Bureau was organized to help
7farmers improve their production practices and later expanded
8its interests to enhance the quality of life for member
9families, promote all aspects of agriculture and advocate good
10stewardship of our land and resources; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Kane County Farm Bureau joined with similar
12organizations in other counties to organize, cooperate and
13coordinate efforts on a broader scale, and formed the Illinois
14Farm Bureau in 1916 and American Farm Bureau in 1919; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Kane County Farm Bureau supported
16establishment of business services for farmers and member
17families through the Illinois Farm Bureau such as: AgriVisor
18Services, GROWMARK, Country Companies Mutual Insurance and
19Financial Services, Prairie Farms, and the Illinois
20Agricultural Auditing Association; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Farmers came together to hire a farm advisor to

1help improve agronomic practices; these farm advisors
2eventually evolved into the Extension Service of Land Grant
3Universities and the United States Department of Agriculture;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Over 17,000 families are members of the
6association, making it the largest farm organization in Kane
7County; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Volunteer efforts by members of the Kane County
9Farm Bureau have helped ensure Kane County remains a great
10place to farm and has allowed people in Kane County to benefit
11from the bounty farmers provide; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Kane County Farm Bureau contributed to Kane
13County's establishment of an ordinance to protect farms from
14nuisance lawsuits in 1991, the development of a storm water
15ordinance to protect farmland in 2000, the establishment of a
16Farmland Protection Program in 2001, and assistance to farmers
17in maintaining productive soils with a farmland drainage
18assistance program in 2003, all firsts for Illinois farmers;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Kane County Farm Bureau is active in the
21community; each year the volunteer efforts of its members
22provide educational programming to thousands of school

1children, provide free public events that provide
2entertainment and teach people about agriculture, and provide
3hunger relief for thousands of neighbors in need through the
4Harvest for All program; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we recognize the Kane County Farm Bureau's continued commitment
8to the residents of Kane County and the advancement of
9agriculture in Illinois and send congratulations on the 100th
10anniversary; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the Kane County Farm Bureau as a symbol of our
13respect and esteem.
