HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ronald M. Serpico
4on the occasion of receiving the Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker
5Award from the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker Award is given by
7the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans to those who
8promote harmony and unity within their communities; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico graduated from Proviso East High
10School in 1970; he subsequently earned his bachelor's degree in
11political science from ISU in 1974 and his Juris Doctor degree
12from the DePaul School of Law in 1977; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico, believing in his grandfather's
14vision of the "American Dream", successfully ran for Mayor of
15Melrose Park in 1997; as mayor, he has made it his mission to
16make Melrose Park a community where people want to move to and
17not from; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico was a delegate to the Democratic
19National Convention in 1972; he is also a charter member and
20vice president of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Illinois State
21University and a former board member of the Proviso Early

1Intervention Building Program; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico has been a practicing attorney
3since 1977 and has been in private practice since 1980; he is a
4former prosecutor and library attorney for the Village of
5Melrose Park and a former prosecutor for the Village of Stone
6Park; he is also a former board attorney for the Veterans Park
7District and a former attorney for the Branch 825 Letter
8Carriers Union and the Local 1027 Carpenters Union; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico is well known in his community for
10his great generosity; he has taken on cases for many clients
11who have been unable afford a legal retainer; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico and his loving wife of 36 years,
13Donna, have 3 children, Ron Jr., Joanna, and Michael, and 6
14grandchildren, Hannah, David, Thomas, Brooklyn, Naomi, and
15Giovanna; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico will be presented with the Robert
17G. Cimo Peacemaker Award during an event at the Donald E.
18Stephens South Ballroom in Rosemont on June 9, 2012; therefore,
19be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we congratulate Ronald M. Serpico on the occasion of receiving
2the Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker Award and wish him continued
3success and happiness in the future; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to Ronald Serpico as a symbol of our esteem and
6respect.
