HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Ronald M. Serpico on the occasion of receiving the Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker Award from the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans; and

WHEREAS, The Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker Award is given by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans to those who promote harmony and unity within their communities; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico graduated from Proviso East High School in 1970; he subsequently earned his bachelor's degree in political science from ISU in 1974 and his Juris Doctor degree from the DePaul School of Law in 1977; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico, believing in his grandfather's vision of the "American Dream", successfully ran for Mayor of Melrose Park in 1997; as mayor, he has made it his mission to make Melrose Park a community where people want to move to and not from; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1972; he is also a charter member and vice president of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Illinois State University and a former board member of the Proviso Early Intervention Building Program; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico has been a practicing attorney since 1977 and has been in private practice since 1980; he is a former prosecutor and library attorney for the Village of Melrose Park and a former prosecutor for the Village of Stone Park; he is also a former board attorney for the Veterans Park District and a former attorney for the Branch 825 Letter Carriers Union and the Local 1027 Carpenters Union; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico is well known in his community for his great generosity; he has taken on cases for many clients who have been unable afford a legal retainer; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico and his loving wife of 36 years, Donna, have 3 children, Ron Jr., Joanna, and Michael, and 6 grandchildren, Hannah, David, Thomas, Brooklyn, Naomi, and Giovanna; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Serpico will be presented with the Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker Award during an event at the Donald E. Stephens South Ballroom in Rosemont on June 9, 2012; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Ronald M. Serpico on the occasion of receiving the Robert G. Cimo Peacemaker Award and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ronald Serpico as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
